For what it's worth, I am a devotee of prefolds -- they have worked very well for us through two kids, and they still have lots of life left in them. We have had great success with Bummis SWW covers through the day, and a wool cover at night.  However, cloth diapering is a prime example of 'different strokes for different folks' -- whether your main concern is bulk, cost, cuteness, or absorbency, we have something for everyone....
