Hotslings.com was founded in March ’03 by Kristen DeRocha – a high school teacher with a sewing machine. She saw a pouch style sling in use at a La Leche League meeting and decided that she had to have one. She had used adjustable slings with rings and tails up until that point and was never comfortable with the tail, and her daughter was an excessive ‘leaner’ in the sling and the rings were constantly having to be re-adjusted. Kristen looked around at pouches and found nothing she liked. So she sewed herself one out of some funky fabric she had around the house. This became her sling of choice.

People began seeing her with this groovy pouch around town and wanted her to make them. So she set up a small website and named her designs “Hotslings” to make people think of something fun, easy and hip. Kristen then developed a sizing concept after much trial and error. This concept was something new to the market because there were 7 sizes – which made for a much better pouch fit.

Then she added a small section of padding after a customer said, “What can we do about the leg marks in slings?” Kristen remembered how her heavily padded adjustable sling never marked her daughter’s legs. So she figured a little padding in the leg area only would preserve the sleek look of the pouch, but create a cushion for the baby’s knee area. Kristen’s ideas took off and eventually she was able to quit teaching and hire out sewing to create a constant supply of Hotslings. The Hotsling is a copyrighted, original design.

This carrier is worn over one shoulder, resting on the opposite hip. This compact carrier can easily be stuffed into a diaper bag or purse. Can be worn with the baby in front, side or back. Ideal for discreet nursing.

This pouch is constructed from a slightly stretchy woven material. The fabric is 97% cotton, 3% lycra. Some people find the small amount of 'give' to be more comfortable.

The padding along one railing reduces the impact of the pressure on the legs under the knees. This padding is very minimal and discreet, but it does increase the bulk of the sling overall, so it is not quite as compact.

Correct sizing for pouch slings is essential for the happiness of both mom/dad and baby. As a jumping off point, measure yourself loosely from the outer edge of your shoulder to the TOP of your opposite hipbone (where you would put your hand if you were 'sassing your mama') to determine your size. If you are taller/fuller figured or shorter than average, you may need to go a half (ex: from S to S/M) size up or down.
